Katsuo, laveur de vitres d'un immeuble de grande hauteur, voit une employée de bureau dans une situation délicate. Il s'éprend d'elle et la poursuit de ses assiduités. Tous deux fuient une vie sans espoir dans leur village. Ils tombent amoureux, mais elle se fait violer. Une tragédie s'ensuit.
